Well, here’s the pictures to go along with all my ranting this week. First is helping in the bakery, this is my frosting mishap. You can see how I have a stencil of my apron. Troy took the picture so I dug out a handful of frosting. He can’t stand wet squishy stuff touching his hands. It’s fun when it’s so easy to freak someone out.
Then there is the MCI drill. I was trying to take it seriously and wasn’t really focusing on pictures so I really didn’t get any good ones. This does give you a pretty good idea of the fire house but I left out all the triage places. Actually, if you look to the very left of the picture you see a cluster of narrow green oxygen tanks, that would be the yellow area, there’s a bunch of flimsy looking saw horses around it, those are the stretcher stands and along the back wall you can make out 4 stretchers leaning up against the wall.
Friday was our shoveling day. I am glad to get a couple of pictures outdoors so you can see the light. The drifted stairwell is from our previous evening of Condition 2 weather, when we had the MCI drill. The pictures were taken at about 8:00 am.
This is a storage area, rows of mill vans which are cargo containers that come off the ship. We were putting some science supplies in there. It overlooks the science building. Way in the background you can see across the ice shelf to the Royal Society, the mountain range. It’s almost high noon, the brightest that it gets.
Other things that happened this week, I found my contract and was able to show Angie that I really am scheduled to leave here in August. If it hadn’t been in my contract I would have probably had to stay till October. Angie asked if I’d be willing to extend but I really don’t want to and told her so. I would stay if they were absolutely desperate, though.
Yesterday was a full day with my first lesson in Kung Fu, I finally got caroused into playing dodgeball and pretty much wrecked my shoulder warming up. Then I had to play without my glasses. It was complete suicide but I did manage to still make an impression. I didn’t run around dodging balls because I never saw them coming. Ronie got floored by a ball and when he wasn’t getting back up I remembered what he had said as a firefighter staying with a fallen firefighter so I stood in front of him and tried to guard. Hey, if I can’t throw, dodge, or see I can at least pretend to be noble. I had a blast and this morning I found myself signed up on a Dodgeball league. I am definitely going to need to do some training. The rules of the league is that each team has to have at least one girl. I hate being the handicap.
I also did a short massage and then I was too out of it to go to the Cinco de Mayo celebration so I stayed in until my friends came and found me. We had a great time doing the usual room hopping. This morning I saw Bree’s watercolor artwork and found out that there is a big art show in Aug. And that I should be getting ready for it because people sell their artwork. Whoa. Gotta, get busy with that. I think the Physical Therapist is going to help me hone my workout routine! How awesome would that be to have my very own home workout. All right, that’s the beginning of May for ya. It should be interesting. Talk to you later.
