Hello all, I am finally getting some more pictures up! Basically, it has all slowly piled up and as it has it had become more and more of a mess. I put pictures in all sorts of electronic locations and I really don’t know what I have or haven’t done. Not only that but sometimes I wait almost a month after an event to get the pictures from somebody else. Hopefully I finally figured some things out and I will be all caught up again in a couple days.
I think the most out of date pictures would be from when I got to be a sub for the Blue Ballers oneday. It was great to be on the other side, to be part of a team but not for an entire league season. I bowled a 117, which is a great score for me. I was really relieved, I didn’t want to be the weak link. I didn’t have to worry too much because Justin had quit drinking nearly a month before and his score had dropped by about 50 pins.
The pictures are in the category of having to wait for someone to finally make them availabe, that would be Chad. I included a picture of a pinsetter in action so you can see what the bowlers see. It’s a real differance between an automatic and manual pinsetting. There’s slats in the wall about the pins which allows for some viewing from the players as well, for instance, on Monday when I was pinsetting with Julie and we were sitting on our ledge chatting a pin flew up and hit the door frame directly beside her. The bowlers got to see that near miss.
My goal of a blog sight was to include every day pictures and really get you a feel of the life down here. Everyone already calls me a Japanese tourist for always pulling out the camera. I want you to see the library, the laundry room, where they fix the waffle irons, the height of the vehicles that you have to climb in and out of. Anyways, I have a nice normal picture of Jana and I heading downstairs to the first floor lounge for Movie night. Jana, my suite-mate and I are hauling our blankets down so we can be cozy, as always. The lounge holds no heat. Cold air is able to blow directly under the floor and the walls are lined with huge windows. It’s not bad for playing ping pong or pool but just vegging out and watching a movie you freeze. It’s not as cold as my room back home when I wear gloves.
Sometime ago there was another party that I had the chance to go to. The horse races. I got my outfit and everything but I never went. I can’t remember why. I know I was tired and then I found it was a gambling thing as well. Not that I am so against gambling but I don’t like spending money for entertainment. I did get to see pictures of the event later and I was a bit disappointed that I had missed out on it. There are some Jockeys who come dressed for the part – sort of. Andre had the best costume, he had a propellar backpack. Kelly had a cute polka-dot skirt with a matching helmet with the two beer holders and straw, conveniant drinking. There was a knight with a jousting stick and someone who looked sort of like a warrior from Braveheart. There were horse shaped game pieces with number, a long green turf “track”. This was the race and each jockey took turns shaking up a 5 gallon bucket that read “horse shite” and dumping out car dice. One dice indicated which horse got to advance and the other dice detrmined the number of spaces. The only rule I actually heard about was that each jockey had a to have a beer in their hand at all times. I looked at he pictures and wondered how anyone passed any psyche eval, especially if were to try to explain to someone that this is a horse race.
One of our girls’ nights we decided to have a beach party in the sun room. Since this is a public place we had a few surprise visitors but they went and changed for the part as well. I love that Simone came in after returning from a Castle Rock trip. It’s just perfect to have people sitting in a lounge, one ina swimsuit and one with FDX boots. We had books, beach towels, flipflops, leis, sunglasses, run, everything for a great time. Ceasar played beach music on the radio station, etc, etc. I gave Jana her “tattoo”.
Another party I missed talking about was the Disco Party at Scott Bases. I did make it to that but it really wasn’t as entertaining as the Hill Billy Party. I had the most fun dressing up for it. It’s a little hard to have a blast in hideous polyester pants and annoying Disco music. I know that’s the whole point, but still.
Emily and Jason hard at work
I can’t believe that the last time I wrote was before Fire Ball! So much has happened since then! Anyways, when I first heard about the Firemen’s Ball I immediately began planning my outfit. Then a date was picked and I put my plan into action. I wanted to come as a burn victim. Basically, I envisioned a prom queen that had been in a car accident or something. You know, all dressed up and formal but scorched. I sewed my own skirt to burn, Jason helped me a bit and it had the perfect effect. When I was there the outfit sort of evolved into a literal translation of being “toasted” or burned out. That seemed to fit pretty well.
The Ball itself was amazing. The Fire Fighters had put $700 on the bar for an open bar, that lasted 2 hours. Imagine that with drinks at $2 a piece. Anyways, it was just awesome because even after the money ran out people kept putting money on the bar to keep the drinks free for everyone else. At one point all the DAs were there (minus Sandy) as well. I don’t think that has happened since the first week we arrived. A few people didn’t understand why I was covered in black smudges. I was asked if my boyfriend beat me up, if I had changed a tire recently and if I had put on too much mascara. Whatever. It was just a real good time. There was so many people and just so much mingling.
A great part was Andre and Jana. I shouldn’t be blogging this but who cares, she has the biggest crush on him. Jana is sweet, shy, and looking for true love so to see her talk about Andre is just cute. Anyways, I hope I’m not being nosey or prying. I haven’t tried to be a go-between or anything but I do use picture opportunities to the fullest advantage. I was pretty pleased when I convinced Andre to give Jana a kiss for the camera. It seemed like good timing since he was a co-host of the party.
All right, I have a lot more things to post and to talk about. I am going to get on with it.
