I think I should make break time on Mondays my days to catch up on blogs, the problem is that is usually the time I try to catch up on sleep from the weekend.
I finally got to see the last of my time here laid out on paper. It’s crazy how little time is left. I have to think about packing. Emily just told me about her stash of boxes in the back room.
This weekend was the McMurdo Film Festival. It’s sort of pointless trying to explain films, I hope they have them on DVD or something. There was a spoof on cops making a huge caper about people stealing bowls. It’s an inside joke I guess but it’s crazy what a big deal it is. I think I have even written about it. We have signs continually posted for people to return bowls. We just never have enough. People throw them away instead of returning them to the Galley. It’s sort of funny that way since all garbage gets sorted then waste finds the bowls and when they have a collection they return them.
The neat thing is that they had a 48 hr film contest where each entry had to include certain things. I think the criteria was an ice cream cone, a sleeping person and the line, “Looks like we lost another one.”
I think the best part of the film festival was before that. Emily was working in the Galley and one volanteer hadn’t shown up so it was her and another volanteer. We DAs were all sitting together waiting for the movie to start. Emily’s dilema was brought to our attention when she asked Jason to take the garbage out. Before you knew it everyone was up and doing stuff and it wasn’t just the DAs, Glenn, Sandy’s husband and the doctor, was there and Christina, the baker and part time DA, stumbled into the whole thing and pitched right in. It was really really awesome. Today Sandy sent out an e-mail to everyone about it and Emily sent out attaboys. The problem is that we aren’t supposed to work any over time. We were actually getting in trouble early on in the season for coming in and helping. Back in those days we wouldn’t get out till 9:00. Now 7:45 is staying late. It was sort of annoying to think that a good deed would be frowned on. Still we had so much fun. It was Mandi, Sandy, Glenn, Jason, and me. We were supposed to meet Jana at the Coffee House for pre-movie drinks but I got ahold of her and told her to come to the Galley and bring a hat. She brought several and we were all wearing Jana hats. That would be berrets and J-Lo hats. We were done by 7:20. Emily got to watch the movies and it turns out that she was in one which was also my very favorite. I laughed so hard I almost cried. It was another film about what was happening to the bowls. It’s a little stop motion of a bowl that takes off scooting down the halls with a chipmunk voice trying to immitate a motor. I have got to get a copy of that.
All right, I’m heading out. I will write soon, and shorter. Next week is the Arts and Crafts show. I just hope I can get some things done for that. Unfortunately, the one color printer that I know about down here ran out of ink. BUMMER!
