Everyone was all excited this morning as we finally had our first Condition 1. I was actually up and awake for it. I went to the gym and talked to Christina for an hour, no workout. When I had left my dorm I couldn’t see the gym across the street. I went by the light above it, the one that warns about which condition it is. It was at Condition 2. When I finally left and went back to the dorm I saw that it had been changed to a Condition 1. It was for visibility I’m sure, I don’t think the wind or the windchill was that bad. It was rattling stuff in my room though. When I went off to work at 10:30 it had already returned to a Condition 2 but there was a flagged rope laying on the ground that led from 207 to 155. Now THAT was cool. Talking to Brian after lunch today he said he got to do some escorts this morning. Remember? No one is allowed outside during a Condition 1 unless escorted by a firefighter or SARS person. I think they will also sometimes allow you to go out but you have to call the firehouse or your work center to let them know that you are going outside. If you don’t call back and report in when you arrive at your destination then they’ll send out a search crew.
It’s a busy week this week. I am signed up for pinsetting twice, there’s massages, and there’s midwinter dinner to prepare for. Midwinter is a little over 2 weeks away but Christina is going to let me decorate the cake and I get to paint a backdrop. They want to do some prom style pictures with a lovely background scene. The Fourth of July Carnival is coming up. I’ve signed up to do face painting. I love doing that. Maybe I should add tattoos to that as well. Cora is going to have a hugging booth. Her and Julie are also conspiring to look like rough carnies. That would be so fun. So much to do, so much to do. I am just trying to keep busy so I can sleep. It’s strange to have an entire town experiance insomnia together. My cure is just to not go to bed. I think I’ve been going to bed at midnight and getting up at 5:30 on a pretty regular basis. When I do get enough time to sleep it’s wonderful.
Speaking of sleep, there was another sleepover at Hut 10. Christina’s B-Day party. She went all out. As the baker she made all the treats, there was great techno music and lots of people passed through. When the night finally settled down to the hardcore DA crew, the guys started reminiscing about their highschool wrestling careers and went after each other. It was highly entertaining. My high school was a huge into wrestling and I never saw a match before. I guess I got to see it at Hut 10.
Mid- Season evaluations have come and gone. I finally got to hear where I stand. My goal is a level 5. It’s the highest and nearly impossible to get. It’s annoying to have your whole life revolve around that but that’s the way it is. They look at how you spend your free time, how you contribute to the community and whatever. Now I am off trying to be even busier. A level 5 means a 20% bonus of your Antarctica earnings. I want that money and I also want that recognition. Now I am seeing all sorts of art projects to do and I am still trying to get up the nerve to organize a class. We’ll see, Christina wants me to teach her cake decorating. It would be awesome to teach a little group of 4 people, we’ll see. Maria is also asking for some watercolor lessons. I plan on doing that on Sunday. That I am excited for. Well, I didn’t mean to ramble, I’m just chatty this afternoon, I’m making the most of it since I was a little slow last week. “Slow motion” Troy calls it. Poor guy, he’s usually stuck with me when I’m out of it and has to drag me around with him for the day. I just stare off into space and give him lots of things to laugh at. Talk to you later. I will try to put up some pictures this weekend – or sooner. Ta Ta.
