Hey all, in light of Mother’s Day coming up I thought it would be an appropriate time to show you a Mother’s Day commission that I did back in March. This is for a family that I’ve known since was in 6 so they are quite familiar with my “storybook” phase which what I call this style right here. My friend commissioned this, a painting of three generations of girls in their backyard. I “olden days-ed” it a bit and that is my storybook style. I would take all my friends, come up with some fun scenario and put us all in it together. There was usually some mischief going on but mostly I painted people enjoying each others company – and big pouf-y skirts. It’s very nostalgic to go back to painting this way.
This is for a super sweet lady that loves her chickens and loves gardening. Also, as a fun note, she worked at a historical farm in Minnesota and I’ve painted her in her dress that she would wear for that.
I just can’t wait to hear what this mother thinks of this gift. She has always been such a dedicated support of my art. I’m so glad that she gets to have an original in her home. I don’t know why I didn’t think to give her a gift earlier. Happy Mother’s Day all.
