This painting came about after a discussion following one of Sophia’s meditations. It was a visualization journey to your sacred garden. The Sacred Garden journey has been one of my favorite meditations Sophia has led. I had such a powerful experience that I painted my garden here:
After Sophia’s seession we sat in a circle and discussed our gardens and our experiences. When Sophia described what she had seen and experienced in her garden it was so vivid that I could imagine her garden as perfectly as I seen mine. Sophia described a giant African tree dripping with mangoes and her and her husband, Cristof in a hammock swing together. It took me nearly a year to get to this painting but it was finally time. I have 2 other paintings planned from Sophia’s meditations from more than 2 years ago. I hope to be painting both of those this year.
First step was lots of sketching. Once I had it drawn on stretched watercolor paper I was able to get some input from other artists which was so helpful. The rest was my technique I’m honing the masking and pouring technique. A light wash is poured of three colors, they are allowed to mix and dry. Once that layer is dry I mask off what I want to save and do another pour. I let dry, mask, pour, repeat. It’s exciting and a bit nerve wracking because I don’t know how it turns out until I peel all the masking off. From there it’s almost like starting over. I still had to go back in and refine all the colors and details.
Ok, so I am new to blogging on wordpress but I am loving this option I have for grids of giant pictures! There is a lot involved with a painting but I didn’t want to bore you with the details so below is the step-by-step process in pictures but if you want to know more you can just click on a photo and read through each step I have. How great is that?! Enjoy! What do you think of this new layout?
These prints are for sale at my Etsy store – Etsy.com. The original paintings of the Sacred Garden are also for sale please contact me for more info. Thank you for visiting.
