It’s been a tough week to try to get 29 faces during this 30 day challenge while I was helping to put up Zapow’s Creepy Cute show. I did it though. I think I missed one day but I did two faces to make up for it – I don’t even want to share them.
Sunday was a fantastic art day! I got to do my first official giveaway. The winner is Dawn of Healing Thyme Services. She chose her profile picture by Ray Mata Photography to paint. I was in such a good, the weather was great, I got to be outside and Dawn’s picture showed so much foliage and garden things that I just wanted it to burst with color and flowers. She reminded me of a garden guru.
I also love the colorful and whimsical ways art journalists do faces and I want to try to hone that technique.
I had to start with purple and I decided to try using a second color.
I wanted the flowers of the necklace to be a larger part of the painting so I drew them large in the background. From there I played until I liked the results.
I went all out with color and in the end it seemed natural to have the halo effect like a saint. Thank you Dawn for contributing a photo for me to play with. Next I am going to try doing a monochromatic underpainting to keep the highlights bright and distinguish from the background. I struggled contrast in when I started with a flat background.
I passed 400 likes on my Facebook Page this week so I upgraded Dawn’s prize from a 5×7 to a 12×12. Please help me spread the word about this week’s contest. I’ll be selecting another winner. Do you think we could get to 500 likes by Sunday? I’m already on the way. If we do I’ll give away a 12×12 portrait.
If you want to guarantee yourself a portrait I am accepting portrait commissions for $79 during the month of February as part of my 30 day challenge. Contact me on my FB page or send me an e-mail.
