The original plan was to have the couple engaged in detailed activity on the front porch. The man would be painting the house, the wife having just taken a break from raking would be bringing out beer for the two to enjoy – they like their beer – but to have the house and the people on the same plane would either dwarf the people or cut out some of the house.
final approved drawing. We are ready to paint!
First thing things, the background. I usually don’t get this detailed for scenery.
The details in the foreground are masked as well as the fence in the background, ugh. Then I make some washes on the grass. I’m trying to replicate the grass in the favored painting as well as make that dying fall grass.
Almost done. I had so much going on in the background that I wasn’t sure what colors to use on the people.
detail of final painting. This is one of my least outlined story book style paintings I’ve ever done.
Submitted for final approval
I am so much happier with the muted tree line. I think it improves the basket of leaves and brings attention to the foreground.
