Welcome back to Germany
I’m here in Munich/München Germany, staying in a little one bedroom furnished apartment in Southwestern suburb called Harass. Does that still make me a travel artist?
I haven’ve quit painting since I’ve been here. In fact I’ve started a new goal, to create every day for 10 days. Follow me on Instagram for those daily posts. If I can do 10 days I’m going to try for another 10. My secret goal is to do 100 days of art but I’m not good at commitment so I’m trying to trick my artist brain by giving it easier goals.
Watercolor Street Art
One of my favorite ways to experience the city is to do art of the winding streets. As we explore the city I put notes in my phone of interesting scenes near a business address that I can Google later. This is one of those spots near Marienplatz.
I hauled my basic watercolor supplies on a walk to the center of town. I found my spot and sat on the cobblestones to paint. Recommendation: Bring a stool, pillow, or anything besides sitting on cobblestone for 3 hours. It tried posting some live videos on Facebook as I progressed through my work. I’m trying to figure out the best way to share my process.
If you want to read about how I paint a scene from start to finish, from choosing the location to making the art, you can read this detailed lesson here
This is such a wonderful way to meet other people. I even met another Rachel and she was also from CHAPEL HILL, NC can you believe it?
This is the first 8×10 I’ve painted since I’ve been here and unfortunately I missed a sale because I hadn’t figured out what price I wanted to sell this for. It’s hard to spend 3 hours painting and then just hand off a work of art for a few dollars.
Pricing my art is my art is my biggest challenge. I do 8×10 commissions for $200 but what would I ask for someone on the streets? I was thinking $100 but I can’t look someone in the eye and ask that price.
What exercise or practice would you recommend to get over that?
I have exciting news
I’m finally making my artwork accessible online!!!
Yes, I sell commissions and now you can begin to collect prints. During my trip the the US I delivered 3 commissions, two of them I had painted in Europe, following my dreams as a travel artist
